Journeys Through Landscapes Rural

This photo essay began five years ago and is an ongoing visual narrative that seeks to capture the atmosphere and environs of forests, farms, ponds, and green spaces in general. As urban sprawl seeks to overtake Southern Ontario, there are yet several natural areas that house myriad flora, fauna, and foot path stories. One might think that over two thousand photos is enough to capture nature’s mise en scene but this is not the case. Daily I see as a poet, photographer, and person, new artifacts and written and visual poems and stories in the landscape. All four seasons visit the region and perhaps it is because of this that the same countryside changes through time to other landscapes. It births itself into its new self, into something else, before a nature walker’s eyes. For those keen of eye and truey engaged with the region through poetry, prose, painting, photography, or other, the same physical pathways change and are never really what they were (think Heraclitus) and nor are they physical only. The paths, as the visuals seek to be, are also indicative of spiritual, emotional, and psychic moods. Those areas are physical and metaphysical and constantly changing. You can never step on the same path twice.

ΕΙΔΥΛΛΙΑΚΑ ΨΗΦΙΔΩΤΑ
Ταξίδια Σε Τοπία Υπαίθρου

Αυτό το φωτογραφικό δοκίμιο ξεκίνησε πριν πέντε χρόνια, και είναι μια οπτική αφήγηση σε εξέλιξη που αναζητά να αιχμαλωτίσει την ατμόσφαιρα και τον περίγυρο των δασών, των αγροκτημάτων, των λιμνών και γενικά των χώρων πρασίνου. Η αστική επέκταση επιδιώκει να καταλάβει το Νότιο Οντάριο, κι όμως υπάρχουν ακόμα αρκετές φυσικές περιοχές που φιλοξενούν μυριάδες φυτά, ζώα και ιστορίες μονοπατιών. Μπορεί κάποιος να νομίζει ότι πάνω από δύο χιλιάδες φωτογραφίες αρκούν για να συλλάβουν το σκηνικό της φύσης, αλλά δεν είναι αυτό το ζητούμενο. Βλέπω καθημερινά, ως ποιητής, φωτογράφος και άνθρωπος, νέα τεχνουργήματα, γραπτά και οπτικά ποιήματα και ιστορίες στο τοπίο. Ίσως επειδή και οι 4 εποχές επισκέπτονται την περιοχή, η εξοχή αλλάζει μέσα στο χρόνο σε άλλο τοπίο. Γεννά από τον εαυτό της έναν νέο εαυτό, κάτι άλλο, μπροστά στα μάτια του περιπατητή. Για τους παρατηρητικούς και όσους ασχολούνται ενδελεχώς με την περιοχή μέσω της ποίησης, της πρόζας, της ζωγραφικής, της φωτογραφίας κλπ, τα φυσικά μονοπάτια αλλάζουν (σκεφτείτε τον Ηράκλειτο) και δεν παραμένουν ίδια και αμετάβλητα, ούτε παραμένουν μόνο φυσικά. Τα μονοπάτια, όπως και οι απεικονίσεις επιζητούν να γίνουν, είναι επίσης ενδεικτικά των πνευματικών, συναισθηματικών και ψυχικών διαθέσεων. Αυτές οι περιοχές είναι φυσικές και μεταφυσικές και μεταβάλλονται διαρκώς. Δεν μπορείς να πατήσεις στο ίδιο μονοπάτι δύο φορές.
